Transmission Utility Herbicide Applicators (TUHA) must have all required state licenses/certifications in California, Nevada, and Arizona in order to apply herbicide across the Desert Southwest Region, must have a valid driver’s licenses, CPR/first aid, and other related training. Each TUHA will also be required to complete required training in Cyber Security and DSW Substation and Communication Access. Perform the vegetation removal and treatment activities to assure full compliance with plans, specifications, safety and other contract requirements, including operating safely and within the guidelines of the Minimum Approach Distances per DSW standards.
Major Activities (Typical Duties/Responsibilities)
Adhere to all federal, state, and safety best management practices when it comes to vegetation management adjacent to energized facilities including inside a substation or along a ROW.
Transport, mix, and apply prescribed herbicide mix(es) in accordance with each product’s label within substations, ROW’s, and access as directed, including adding a visible dye to track product application.
To not apply product any higher than one foot off the ground on any buildings, hardware, or other associated features within a substation.
The job requires travel within the servicing Desert Southwest Region and the vehicle is your mobile office. Contractor must be able to communicate in the field with reliability and access to emails, documents, and project information.
Overnight travel is required up to 99% of time, and overtime will in some cases be mandatory based on the required support needed at job sites.
Prepares and submits recommendations to the Technical Representative for the COR concerning any delays and providing documentation and recommendations for potential contract modifications to the tree removal contract.
All equipment shall comply with applicable OSHA guidelines and shall be in good operating condition.
Knowledge and Qualifications required:
Minimum one year experience of working around high voltage electrical power system utility in the maintenance and operations industry to include transmission lines, energized substations, and communication sites.
Minimum two years’ experience in herbicide applications and vegetation removal.
Knowledge of safety requirements associated with herbicide application within a substation, communication sites and ROWs.
Ability to identify various biological communities within the DSW service territory.
Knowledge of state and federal regulations regarding chemical applications and demonstrates experience in transmission utility industry to include knowledge of applicable OSHA vegetation safety standards, FAC-003 requirements, FERC/NERC Standards and requirements.
Knowledge of safety requirements associated with working on high voltage equipment and vegetation removal practices.
Current pesticide applicator’s licenses issued by Arizona, Nevada, and California, or the ability to acquire them before actual product application.
Ability to communicate effectively, orally, and in writing. Experience in preparing correspondence, and maintaining official records using the following computer software Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Project, and Adobe Acrobat.
