General Function

Mission Essential Position.  Participate in the drafting of Air Force, joint service, and combined operations plans.  Provide planning expertise to facilitate identification and determination of factors impacting mission analysis development, and to assist in the development of drafting, staff coordination, and review of applicable plans and doctrine.  Provides information, analysis, and recommendations on matters regarding joint planning and joint doctrine.                                                                                                                               

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Administer the joint planning process in accordance with HAF, MAJCOM, and joint service policies, directives, and procedures.  Lead planning groups and teams as required.  Develops applicable planning products to include Mission Analysis, Course of Action, and Commander Assessments.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to develop operation plans that are consistent with Air Force and joint service doctrine that fully exploit the United States Air Force (USAF) and joint services' unique warfighting capabilities.
  • Prepare staff packages to coordinate draft versions of plans between staff agencies to ensure a coherent planning effort.  Receive, track, and resolve staff inputs on draft plans and maintain records of the resolution process. 
  • Support AFNORTH and USNORTHCOM Theater Security Cooperation efforts including review and coordination of the Theater Campaign Plan, Partner Nation (PN) Country Plans, and Capacity Development Plans (CDPs).
  • Draft operations annexes of CONR-1 AF (AFNORTH) supplements to NORAD and USNORTHCOM conceptual and operations plans. 
  • Conduct mission analysis and course of action development, develop request for forces with through analysis of mission requirements, higher headquarters guidance, plans and supporting data.
  • Participate in the AFNORTH deliberate and crisis action planning process, lead and participate in operations planning groups, and in the CONR-1 AF (AFNORTH) contingency action team operations.
  • Establishes, develops, and maintains effective working relationships with all serviced organizations and senior staff members
  • Make appropriate recommendations for unresolved issues/follow-ups to ensure resolution.
  • Develops goals and objectives that integrate organizational and operational planning objectives into short term and long term plans
  • This position requires a Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility.
  • A high degree of technical and research skills required. 
  • Extensive knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software.
  • Ability to work with senior military leaders in a fast paced, high stress environment.
  • Ability to flex work schedule to accommodate mission requirements.
  • Security clearance required.
  • Extensive experience with military doctrine and planning functions.
  • 2 years experience on a Headquarters or Major Command Staff action officer.
  • Minimum of 4 years additional related experience.                                                                                                                              

Skills/Abilities
